As we reported earlier, Swiss parliamentarians Müller-Altermatt (Centre Party) and Michel Mather (Green Liberals) accompanied by the Secretary General of the Switzerland-Armenia Parliamentary Group are in Armenia to condemn Azerbaijan's military aggression against Armenia on September 13, 2022.
The Swiss delegates held a press conference during which they made a statement.
“Azerbaijan is fully responsible and guilty of the latest incident. His attack is a violation of international law and, therefore, a crime that must be unequivocally condemned by the international community. The Swiss parliamentarians emphasize that the territorial integrity of Armenia is an inviolable basis for stable peace in the region.
The international community should immediately and without hesitation show its place to the aggressor nation and work for the peace and defense of Armenia. Moreover, the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh has the right to self-determination. Since Soviet times, the self-determination of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and more recently, their existence, are under complete threat.
It is unacceptable that the political solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is ignored by the international community and denied by Azerbaijan. After decades of ethnic intolerance and fierce racial hatred against Armenians, Nagorno-Karabakh coming under Azerbaijani rule is unimaginable. The indescribable brutality and inhumane criminal acts against the captured Armenian soldiers were filmed and proudly published on social networks with the obvious intent to commit terrorism.
These are documented cases of war crimes and barbarism and as such must be condemned and punished by international justice.
The delegation's visit to Armenia proves that Switzerland is on the side of democracy, human rights and strives to protect the Armenian nation from dictatorship and oppression. Armenia has taken conscious steps towards democracy and freedom of speech, thus adhering to the same values as Switzerland.
Switzerland bears a special responsibility as a country keeping the tradition of the Geneva Conventions, as two important centers of international trade. The efforts of the Switzerland-Armenia parliamentary group are aimed at ensuring that Armenia's territorial integrity and rights cannot be threatened by weapons financed by Switzerland, and the uncivilized actions of autocrats and tyrants are not accepted in Europe.”
