White House press secretary echoed statements by the national security spokesman John Kirby and State Department spokesperson Ned Price on Tuesday (October 11) regarding plans to reassess U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia following OPEC+ decision to cut oil production, Reuters reports.
Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing that OPEC+ countries had made the decision to align their energy policy with Russia's conflict and against American interests.
“We need to kind of reassess and have a different relationship with Saudi Arabia,'' said Jean-Pierre.
Previously, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said Joe Biden's pledge to recalibrate its relationship with Saudi Arabia would need to consider the threat that Iran poses to the region.
White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that President Joe Biden believes the United States should review its relationship with Saudi Arabia after the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production and is willing to discuss lawmakers' concerns about the bilateral relationship.
