Residents of an Irish village impacted by a deadly petrol station explosion attended a church service on Saturday (October 8), as the death toll was updated to nine, Reuters reports.
Locals gathered in Saint Michael’s church in Creeslough, Donegal county, where the local priest stood outside talking to people as they left.
Chair of the local sports club, St Michael's Gaelic Athletic Association, Liam McElhinney said the crowded church service showed that the tight-knit community has “rallied around” those who had suffered bereavements.
The explosion happened shortly after 3 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) on Friday (October 7) at the Applegreen petrol station on the outskirts of Creeslough. Police said earlier on Saturday that eight more people were receiving treatment in hospital. They have not addressed the cause of the explosion.
Video from the scene showed a residential unit above the petrol station's store with a partially collapsed roof.
