The 2022 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski from Belarus, the Russian human rights organization Memorial (designated as a foreign-agent NGO in Russia), and the Ukrainian human rights organization Center for Civil Liberties, the Nobel Committee said in a statement on Friday, Interfax reports.
"They have for many years promoted the right to criticize power and protect the fundamental rights of citizens," the statement said.
"Together they demonstrate the significance of civil society for peace and democracy," it said.
According to the Nobel Committee, each winner will receive a third of the prize money.
