According to the trilateral agreement signed on November 9, 2020, the peacekeepers stay in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) for 5 years and then leave. Is there a scenario of how the events in Artsakh will develop if Azerbaijan abandons the peacekeeping mission?
In an interview with the Public TV, answering the question, Armeia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the following. "I would like to remind you that the trilateral statement states that this period is automatically extended if one of the parties does not object six months before, that is, the mechanism is automatic extension. Our position is that the security and rights of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh should be ensured, in this case, the presence of Russian peacekeepers is for that purpose, all our efforts are aimed at ensuring that this function, ensuring security and rights, takes place and is put on institutional foundations."
To the question whether the Artsakh issue is discussed in the contacts with the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister answered.
“We are discussing this issue, but there are subtleties, complications, it is not a simple discussion. I already said that, as before, and it was announced at the highest level, there is a situation when Azerbaijan says that they do not want to discuss the Karabakh issue with Armenia, but, of course, this issue is always present in the context and discussions.”
