On September 28, the Human Rights Defender, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan held a meeting with the President of the CoE Venice Commission, Ms. Claire Bazy Malaurie.
The Defender expressed her gratitude to the President of the Venice Commission, Ms. Claire Bazy Malaurie for the fruitful cooperation with the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia.
Defender Grigoryan presented the developments recorded within the framework of the opinion of the Venice Commission requested by the Defender's Institution regarding the legislation of the civil service system, pointing out the maintenance and strengthening of sufficient guarantees of independence necessary for the activities of the Institution in the context of legal regulations.
Ms. Grigoryan informed the President of the Commission that the draft of the Defender's order setting up the code of conducts of the Defender's Office is under the development based on, inter alia, the provisions of the Venice Principles developed by the Commission.
Ms. Grigoryan also reflected on the activities of the Defender within the framework of the Constitutional Reform Commission and on the recommendations presented by the Defender regarding the provisions on human rights.
Ms. Claire Bazy Malaurie highly appreciated the level of cooperation with the Defender's Office and Ms. Grigoryan and inquired about the process of special opinions and applications submitted by the Defender to the Constitutional Court.
The President of the Venice Commission was also presented with the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan on September 13-15, including the cases of direct targeting of civilians and vital infrastructures.
