On September 21, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, on the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, met with Peter Maurer, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Ministry reports.
Presenting the consequences of Azerbaijan's recent aggression against sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, Minister Mirzoyan noted that Azerbaijan's criminal actions were accompanied by cases of deliberate targeting of civilian population and infrastructure, as well as gross violations of international and humanitarian law.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs particularly emphasized the urgency to strictly condemn the cases of inhumane treatment of Armenian servicemen and prisoners of war, including torture of servicewomen and other war crimes. In this context, it was noted that the international community's failure of targeted condemnation of Azerbaijan's war crimes and belligerent behavior, as well as its impunity makes the aggressor more reckless, paving the way for new crimes.
Foreign Minister of Armenia highly appreciated the activity of the ICRC aimed at responding and addressing issues related to repatriation of the Armenian prisoners of war and others detained in Azerbaijan, searching operations for missing persons and other humanitarian issues.
