The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Australia informed in response to the inquiry of ‘Lurer’ regarding the recent aggression of Azerbaijan towards the sovereign territory of Armenia.
“Attributable to a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson: The Australian Government is very concerned about the fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia earlier this month and the considerable loss of life among military personnel.
This violence continues a pattern of fighting along the international border and around the Nagorno-Karabakh region since the November 2020 ceasefire.
The Australian Government condemns the deliberate targeting of civilians and any mistreatment or torture of military personnel or civilians by any country or organisation.
The Australian Government supports efforts to bring the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan together to negotiate border delimitation and demarcation, safeguard cultural heritage in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and to achieve a peace settlement acceptable to all sides,” the statement reads.
