A group of representatives of the upper and lower houses of the Parliament of Italy adopted a statement over the escalation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, urging to stop the military aggression and clearly stating that it is taking place in the sovereign territory of Armenia, the Embassy of Armenia in Italy reports.
In their statement the Italian parliamentarians expressed hope that the international community will openly condemn the aggressor side.
Several MPs have also condemned the Azerbaijani attack on Armenia in a separate statement. Massimiliano Capitanio condemned the attack on Armenia, expressing hope that the statement on the ceasefire will be respected, and the Armenian people would be able to finally live peacefully without continuous and unjustified aggression. “The war should end”, he said.
Senator Alberto Airola expressed his strict concerns over the armed clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, calling it a serious violation of the ceasefire as a result of the aggression of the Azerbaijani forces, which resulted in loss of dozens of lives on the Armenian side. “Acts of violence should be condemned. Escalation that threatens to again blow up the conflict, which, in the conditions of current international tension, could open a new and very dangerous front of conflict between Russia and the West, is in full interests of Erdogan’s Turkey which has long been stocking the fire by pursuing its plans of neo-Ottoman hegemony”, he said.
Senator Enrico Aimi said the fact of 49 Armenian soldiers killed by the Azerbaijani attack has created a great panic in Europe and all over the world. “With our prayer we are close to the families of the victims. It’s necessary for the conflict to be quickly stopped at its initial stage to avoid serious consequences which could destabilize the situation, which is being attempted to be maintained with a difficulty in this problematic territory”, he said.
