White House spokesman John Kirby said the United States remained deeply concerned about reports of attacks along the countries' border and urged the governments of both countries to re-establish direct lines of communications across diplomatic and military channels, Reuters reports.
"We've actively engaged with both the Armenian and the Azerbaijani government to ... see what we can do to end this violence," Kirby told reporters at the White House. "There can be no military solution to this conflict. We urge restraint from any further military hostilities."
“The U.S. is concerned about reports of escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, including strikes on civilian infrastructure, he said noting that they are actively engaged with the authorities in Armenia and Azerbaijan to see what we can do to end this violence.
Secretary Blinken has spoken with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, he added.
We also encourage the sides to restore direct communication channels, both diplomatic and military, and reaffirm their commitment to the diplomatic process to overcome the crisis,” Kirby said.
