Referring to some nuances of the situation, the Prime Minister of Armenia stated in his speech at the National Assembly that after the 44-day war in 2020, Azerbaijan has stated several times that if it sees that Armenia’s armed forces are gathering a certain potential, which, according to its wording, may threaten Azerbaijan, it will carry out pre-offensive operations.
“We have announced that we are carrying out reforms of the armed forces not to capture or conquer territories, but to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. Nevertheless, at the stages when we focus on the reforms of the army and the armed forces, such provocations are also carried out to obstruct the process with the announced agenda,” Nikol Pashinyan emphasized.
As an important feature, he emphasized the fact that we had heavy losses as a result of the 44-day war, but Armenia was not broken as a result of that war.
According to the Prime Minister, it is obvious that despite the global difficulties, Armenia has clear economic successes, and with this, Azerbaijan aims to break the economic dynamics of Armenia.
Nikol Pashinyan also addressed the question of whether this is the result of the peace agenda, and what is happening is not a failure of the peace agenda.
“Having adopted the peace agenda, we understand that it does not depend only on one entity. With these actions, Azerbaijan wants and actually torpedoes the peace agenda. Peace is the agenda in which the Republic of Armenia can develop, peace is the environment that can ensure the security of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh,” stressed the Prime Minister.
According to Nikol Pashinyan, we must protect the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Armenia by all possible means, strive for peace by all possible means, trying to bring our ideas closer together.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the improvement of mechanisms and obligations in alliance and security relations.
