Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recalled that the United States and UN Secretary General António Guterres are obliged to ensure the participation of all delegations in the General Assembly (GA) of the world organization.
Lavrov said that he asked his colleagues not to remind the American side about issuing visas to the Russian delegation.
“The Americans have their own obligations, the UN Secretary General has the duty to ensure the participation of all delegations in the organization’s events, including the General Assembly,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized, answering the question of whether the Russian delegation was granted American visas to participate in the Assembly.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said that the Russian Embassy in the United States had applied to the State Department with a request to issue visas to Lavrov and other members of the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly.
Deputy official representative of the Secretary General of the international organization Farhan Haq noted that António Guterres is in constant contact with the US and Russia on the visa issue.
