Hungary’s stance on relations with Russia may cause Budapest to leave the European Union, declaration Mikulas Beck, Minister for European Affairs of the Czech Republic, on the air of the radio station Český rozhlas Plus, Ria Novosti reports.
The politician emphasized Hungary’s stance on sanctions against Moscow, unlike other members of the bloc.
“Negotiations in the EU are often difficult and many countries can conduct them. But in my view Hungary has come a long way to the edge of some kind of abyss and now has to decide whether to go this extreme or that edge. Take a risk and jump in, speculating about the consequences. I don’t want to do it,” Beck said.
In response to a revealing question from the leading minister, he said that he had accepted the possibility of Hungary leaving the European Union.
Beck said he plans to work hard in the coming months to keep Budapest in the mainstream of European politics.
Western countries are facing rising energy prices and rising inflation in the wake of the sanctions against Moscow and the policy of giving up on Russian fuel. As a result of the increase in fuel prices, especially gas, the sector lost its competitive advantages to a great extent in the United States and European countries, which also affected other areas of the economy.
