The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, welcomed the intention of the Group of Seven countries to set limits on the price of Russian oil – he said this in an evening speech on September 2.
“Every time I remind you that the protection of Ukraine is the protection of the whole of Europe. Not just ours, but the entire democratic world. The decision agreed today by the “big seven” countries to limit the price of Russian oil should be considered from this point of view. When this mechanism is implemented, it will become an important element of protecting civilized countries and energy markets from Russian hybrid aggression,” Zelensky believes.
At the same time, the president pointed to the need to do the same with Russian gas prices. He thanked the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who expressed the same position.
“The time has come for such energy sanctions against Russia. Sanctions that will not only limit the flow of petrodollars and euros of natural gas to Moscow, but also, most importantly, restore justice for all Europeans whom Russia is trying to blackmail with artificially inflated prices on the energy market,” he added.
Earlier on September 2, finance ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries at their summit in Elmau formed a broad coalition to jointly implement the price ceiling for Russian oil.
Afterwards, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, advocated the introduction of a ceiling on the price of Russian natural gas.
