Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova answered the journalists' question about the upcoming meeting between Pashinyan, Aliyev and Charles Michel in Brussels during the briefing.
“Moscow, together with Yerevan and Baku, are focused on fulfilling all provisions of the trilateral agreements reached at the highest level. The work within the agreed trilateral formats is substantial. On August 30, a meeting on the delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan was held in Moscow with the advisory support of Russia.
As for the meeting to be held in Brussels, no information was received from the Armenian and Azerbaijani partners about the plans to create a working group with the mediation of the EU to develop the text of the peace agreement.
In general, we see that the activity of the EU in the South Caucasus is conditioned by geopolitical ambitions, and not by a real desire to contribute to the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations. They are the Europeans’ fake initiatives, which are more like an attempt to shamelessly usurp the laurels of mediation," Zakharova said, noting that Russia works as a mediator, and that work brings concrete results which are appreciated accordingly by both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Those who pretend to be mediators when they are not appear to have nothing to offer but want to demonstrate their involvement. They seem to have lost their diplomatic skills," Zakharova stated.
