Reuters. Northwest Ohio and southern Michigan witnessed severe thunderstorms on Monday (August 29) , which left almost 700,000 people without power and killed two.
Heavy rain and gusts of wind left a path of damage from fallen electric wires and trees. A 14-year-old girl was electrocuted when she touched a charged electric line and another woman was killed by a tree that fell on her during the storm.
The highest wind speed measured in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan was 80 miles (128 km) per hour. The power outages are expected to be restored for customers within the next days. No contamination had been detected, but various of towns west of Detroit were under boil-water alerts until it is safe to drink.
