The Armenian Foreign Ministry spoke on the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation.
"Today we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of signing the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, which largely defined the principles and priorities of our interstate relations. This key document has set guidelines for the further advancement of the Armenian-Russian allied relations in the spirit of centuries-long brotherhood, trust and mutual respect.
The past period has convincingly demonstrated that further strengthening of historic ties between Yerevan and Moscow fully meets the vital interests of our peoples, serves the purposes of social and economic development of the two countries and enhances stability in the South Caucasus. We are successfully moving forward in a wide range of areas of cooperation, filling it with concrete content and increasing the effectiveness of interaction.
We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to continue our close trust-based dialogue on all directions and to use to the maximum the existing potential to consistently build up cooperation between Armenia and Russia.
Regular contacts between the Armenian and Russian leadership, which allow not only to solve current issues but also to coordinate positions on key regional and international problems, have a decisive importance for the enhancement of bilateral potential. The Joint Statement of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia N.V. Pashinyan and Russian President V.V. Putin, adopted during the official visit to Russia of the Prime Minister of Armenia on April 19-20, 2022, confirms the intention to comprehensively deepen and expand interstate relations, based on the principles stipulated in the 1997 Treaty.
In this vein, we are grateful for the special role of Russian peacekeepers in ensuring conditions for the restoration of a peaceful and dignified life for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh highly appreciate the effective steps taken by the Russian side to establish comprehensive peace, an atmosphere of trust and prosperity in the South Caucasus region. We are sure that the way to stability in the region is through the strict fulfillment of the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021.
We truly cherish our friendship with Russia and are committed to further strengthening the Armenian-Russian alliance for the sake of the prosperity of our countries and peoples," the Armenian Foreign Ministry statement reads.
