Reuters. A boat carrying United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres sailed from Istanbul on Saturday (August 20) to inspect grains ships anchored off the Turkish coast.
During the voyage on a Turkish flagged port tender vessel, Guterres was due to inspect the grain carrier Invincible II, a day after visiting Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa.
At a briefing in Odesa, Guterres said developing countries needed help to purchase grain crops and called for unimpeded access to global markets for Russian food and fertilizers which are not subject to sanctions.
The UN chief also met Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Lviv on Thursday (August 19) for further talks on grain exports.
