Moscow is deeply concerned about the escalation of tensions in the Lachin corridor and urges Yerevan and Baku to show restraint and honor the ceasefire, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website on Thursday, Interfax reports.
"We are extremely concerned about the escalation of tensions in the Lachin corridor and other sectors of the contact line. Regretfully, there have been casualties. Our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wishes of speedy recovery to the injured," the ministry said.
"The Russian peacekeepers are doing everything necessary to achieve stabilization on the ground," it said.
"Active work is being done with both sides through all channels and at all levels, including the national leadership. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is in close contact with the Azerbaijani and Armenian colleagues," the ministry said.
"We are urging the sides to show restraint and honor the ceasefire. We believe that the disagreements should be settled exclusively by using political and diplomatic means, with due account of the stances of the sides, and in strict compliance with the provisions of the statement made by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 9, 2020," the ministry said.
