Russia actively contributes to the preparation of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, states.
“On the issue of support for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Igor Khovaev, holds regular consultations with the parties in order to find points of contact, to reach mutually acceptable fundamental principles and parameters of the peace treaty,” the diplomat noted and reminded that the meetings took place held on July 22 in Baku and July 28 in Yerevan.
According to Zakharova, the delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is one of the important directions of the Russian mediation efforts aimed at improving the dialogue between the two countries.
“Moscow's consultative role in this process is set on November 26, 2021 in Sochi with a trilateral statement of the highest level. As it is known, at the end of May, a relevant bilateral commission was established, and the first cognitive meeting of the representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place on the border of the two countries. Moscow is always ready to receive our Azerbaijani and Armenian friends on the territory of Russia,” said the Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Zakharova expressed her belief that Russia’s professional capabilities in terms of delimitation and demarcation in the post-Soviet territory can significantly strengthen security on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the entire region. According to her, exact dates of various meetings are decided by Yerevan and Baku.
