US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's plane has landed in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, according to the media.
According to China Central Television, there is a tense situation in the region.
Chinese Su-35 planes have crossed the Taiwan Strait and are moving towards Taipei. Taiwan's military has been put on high combat readiness.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the US is challenging China's sovereignty and deliberately trying to provoke an incident in the Taiwan Strait, as well as seriously violating the ‘One China’ principle. The Foreign Policy Department warns that the Chinese army will resort to appropriate measures to prevent Taiwan from becoming independent.
Nancy Pelosi also made a statement to emphasize that her visit to Taiwan does not contradict Washington's ‘One China’ policy.
