Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the West’s job should not be to hope for a Ukrainian victory, but to mediate a peace deal. “We should not be on the side of Russia or Ukraine, but between them,” he said, adding that the policy of imposing anti-Russian sanctions did not work.
Oleg Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, called Viktor Orban’s statements “Russian propaganda.”
"Sanctions are effective, they have significantly reduced the military possibility of the Russian side to wage war against Ukraine," said Nikolenko.
The representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also condemned the Hungarian Prime Minister's call to stop the supply of arms to Ukraine, as it allegedly will not help defeat Russia. According to him, it "saves the lives of Ukrainians".
