The EU Council approved the allocation of another EUR 500 million for military assistance to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said via Twitter on July 18.
“Europe continues delivering for peace and defense of our values,” wrote Michel.
“I welcome European Council political agreement on the fifth tranche to Ukraine under the European Peace Facility.”
Michel added that EU support in military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was now at EUR 2.5 billion.
The European Peace Facility is not part of the EU budget. It is formed with contributions from member countries and is intended to finance EU security operations.
The fourth tranche of EUR 500 million under this program was approved on May 17.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Western countries have been providing military assistance to Kyiv, in particular, they are supplying heavy weapons needed to fight the invading Russian forces.
