Ukrainian President Volodymy Zelensky warned that Russia was preparing to “completely cut off gas supplies to Europe” after Canada decided to hand over a Nord Stream 1 pipeline turbine to Germany, The Nation View reports.
“Now, there is no doubt that Russia will try not only to limit as much as possible, but to completely shut off gas supplies to Europe at the most critical moment,” the Ukrainian head of state said on the Telegram messaging service.
“This is what we must prepare for, this is what is being provoked now. Because each concession under these conditions is understood by the Russian leadership as an incentive for greater and stronger pressure,” he maintained.
For Zelensky, Canada’s decision, which, according to him, “raises many problems, can still be reviewed.”
“Russia has never followed the rules in the energy sector and will not now unless it sees power,” he added.
Ukraine today summoned the Canadian ambassador in Kyiv, after the “unacceptable” announcement of the return to Germany of the turbines of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, through which a large part of Russian natural gas enters.
