Lithuania has expanded restrictions on the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad region, banning the transportation of cement, alcohol and other goods through its territory from Russia in connection with the entry into force of European sanctions on them.
This was reported by the portal Verslo žinios with reference to the Lithuanian customs.
“From Sunday, after the end of the transitional period for the entry into force of the fifth package of EU sanctions against Russia, it is forbidden to transport cement, alcohol and other products of Russian production in transit through Lithuania,” the message says.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia's response to the European Union on the issue of transit to the Kaliningrad region would be worthy.
On June 17, the Lithuanian Railways notified the Kaliningrad Railways of stopping the transit of a number of sanctioned goods.
