Chaba, the third typhoon of the year, landed in Maoming City of south China's Guangdong Province on 15:00 Saturday, with a maximum wind force of 12 grade (35 m/s) near the center, Reuters reports.
Strong winds and severe downpours have started to lash the coastal areas of Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi and will last until Monday, according to the local meteorological departments.
It is expected that the typhoon will turn to the north after landfall, gradually weaken its intensity, weaken and dissipate in Guangxi on Monday.
China Meteorological Administration activated a level III emergency response for major meteorological disasters on Friday. The Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Thursday launched a level IV emergency response for the typhoon. Meanwhile, the local meteorological bureaus of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan have activated a level II emergency response for the typhoon.
Affected by the typhoon, port services across the Qiongzhou Strait have been shut down, and starting from Saturday, the route between Beihai City and Weizhou Island was suspended until Tuesday.
The railway services in some areas of Guangdong and Hainan provinces have been shut down and will adjust schedules depending on the weather conditions.
