"Indirect" talks between Iran and the United States aimed at removing U.S. sanctions will resume this week, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Monday.
The talks, scheduled for this week, are intended to smoothen a few issues over the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Iran, the spokesman said during his weekly press conference.
He said the European Union would negotiate separately with the U.S. and Iran as a mediator, and there would be no direct negotiations between the two countries.
"I confirm that there has been an agreement in content and form. But it remains to be seen whether the U.S. government can, according to the plan, stop following the Trump Administration's policies practically and concretely, and become the responsible party. Iran has pledged to participate in the talks and try to resolve the remaining issues of the previous negotiations in the shortest possible time," Khatibzadeh said.
