Due to bad weather, Georgia has temporarily closed the ‘Kazbegi’ land customs point on the border with Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
“Rivers overflowing due to heavy rains (Tergi and Devdorak) have damaged a section of the road connecting Georgia to Russia near the Russian border (Dariali-Lars region),” the statement reads.
Due to bad weather conditions, import-export of goods through the customs border of Georgia, as well as customs control procedures for individuals crossing the state border at the mentioned customs point are not carried out.
After the improvement of the weather and after the repair works, ‘Kazbegi’ will continue to work as usual.
Heavy rains have been falling in Georgia for several days, causing floods, landslides, damage to infrastructure, flooding of houses and the destruction of some crops.
According to the Georgian Road Department, communication between Georgia and Russia will be restored within 7-10 days.
