A meeting at the level of the Secretary of the Security Council and the Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan was scheduled for today, but the Azerbaijani side refused to participate in that meeting. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a press conference with mass media and NGOs.
He noted that Azerbaijan did not respond to the proposal to hold a meeting of foreign ministers before the start of the press conference.
As for the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiation documents, according to the Prime Minister, at the moment there is no other document on the table except the published one.
Referring to the actual peace agreement and its terms, Nikol Pashinyan said:
“This is a very important issue, because we, the representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan, have discussed this issue several times and stated that we still have to come up with ideas in what format, at what pace, in general, what provisions the peace agreement should include. And I must say that the statements made by Azerbaijan are very strange, where an attempt is made to show that Armenia is delaying the negotiations on the peace agreement and the further process. In order not to go into too much detail, I must say that after those statements, a proposal was sent from Armenia’s Foreign Ministry to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to hold a meeting of the Foreign Ministers, so that they would try to reach agreements on the further course.”
The Prime Minister noted that as a result of previous discussions, it was decided that Armenian and Azerbaijani officials should be in touch with each other and they should have contacts to organize further work. However, Azerbaijan has already boycotted the work at least once, and was not involved in the work. No response was received to the proposal made by the Foreign Ministry.
