Parts of southeast China continue to be affected by floods triggered by heavy rainfall, in footage aired by state broadcaster CCTV on Tuesday (June 21), Reuters reports.
In Quzhou, located in the major manufacturing province of Zhejiang, rescuers were seen assisting a cattle farmer on Monday (June 20) with floodwaters reaching a cow's neck. Speedboats were also seen deployed on flooded streets to transport stranded people.
Streets in Shaoguan, in the country's most populous province of Guangdong, revealed a similar situation with inundated stores and roads resembling rivers on Tuesday.
China is historically prone to summer flooding, but in recent times, it has become more vulnerable due to deforestation, reclamation of wetlands and storage of water for power generation and irrigation. Climate change has also been blamed.
