Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić stated at today's press conference that she welcomes the initiatives aimed at reconciliation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“I am encouraged by a number of meetings, the subsequent statements by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, such as the work of the delimitation commission. We must reach reconciliation. All initiatives in this direction are welcome and should be supported.
In this sense, I am glad that the first confidence-building meeting between the representatives of the Armenian and Azerbaijani civil societies took place in Venice on May 16-18, under the auspices of the Council of Europe. The participants agreed to continue the dialogue and work on possible mutual initiatives,” she said.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe thanked the Armenian authorities for supporting the initiative.
