Moscow has not reduced the number of its group in Syria due to the military operation in Ukraine, said the special envoy of the Russian President, Russia's Syria envoy Alexander Lavrentyev. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
In early March, a number of media outlets reported the transfer of Russian troops from Syria to Ukraine, but Russian officials did not confirm this information.
“I want to assure you that there has been no reduction in the number, the equipment installed there, the air defense systems, the aviation have remained the same,” the official said.
Lavrentyev also noted that Russia, Turkey and Iran will hold a summit on the Syrian conflict by the end of August. The diplomat, however, did not rule out that the meeting may be postponed. The face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the three countries, which is scheduled to take place in Iran, has been postponed due to the spread of coronavirus infection, the media reports.
Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior advisor to the Iranian foreign minister, however, assured that the epidemic situation in the country allows holding a summit in Iran.
