Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic urged the public to get ready for a challenging winter as the country will not be able to receive Russian oil from November.
"The country is getting ready for a severe winter. We intend to provide all that is essential, but we get a dozen new problems each day and in particular we need to bear in mind that we will no longer be able to receive Russian oil from November," the Serbian RTS television channel quoted Vucic as saying.
"We need to make sure we have enough fuel oil, but the NIS oil company does not have enough fuel oil. We'll import 20,000 tonnes of fuel oil, but we need 120,000 tonnes for the whole winter," he said, adding that there was no fuel oil to be found anywhere right now, and Serbia was having to bring it in from Romania by barge.
"We'll no longer be able to import Russian oil from November 1 due to the sanctions imposed against Russia, and who knows what other sanctions will be imposed by then?" he said.
The situation with oil deliveries from Russia has become considerably more complicated since the EU announced its sixth sanctions package against Moscow. Serbia gets a lot of its oil from Russia by pipeline via Croatia.
