On June 10, the Armenian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan received the Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation, former Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Mikhail Shvidko.
Highlighting the visit of Mikhail Shvidko to our country, Hakob Arshakyan stated that this year is a jubilee. The 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.
"The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin accepted the invitation of the Prime Minister of Armenia to visit our country in the second half of this year. I think that this visit will have a special significance for the events planned in the jubilee year," the Vice-Speaker of the parliament emphasized.
Hakob Arshakyan touched upon the agenda of the Armenian-Russian parliamentary cooperation, expressing conviction that the partnership relations between the legislative bodies are developing steadily. In this context, the NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the fact that in April of this year, within the framework of the 34th sitting of the inter-parliamentary commission held in Stepanavan, a statue of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was put on the Pushkin bend of the Vanadzor-Tashir highway.
Mikhail Shvidko also praised the level of bilateral parliamentary relations and added that the ties between the two countries are actively developing in the cultural, educational, humanitarian and other spheres. The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was touched upon. According to the guest, they are interested in the Armenians living there historically preserving their safe and dignified lives. Mikhail Shvidko stressed the role of Russian peacekeepers in this issue.
Other issues related to the deepening and expansion of the Armenian-Russian allied friendly relations and regional security were also discussed.
