NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin in Washington to discuss the country's membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He announced this on his Twitter microblog.
“Great to meet with Prime Minister Marin Sanna of our close partner Finland in Washington. We discussed the need to address Turkey’s concerns and move forward with the NATO membership application by Finland and Sweden,” Stoltenberg tweeted.
On May 18, the Ambassadors of Finland and Sweden to NATO formally submitted their membership applications to the Secretary General of the Organization.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara will not support the membership of those countries in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization until Stockholm and Helsinki change their attitude towards the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
