NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that in order for Sweden and Finland to become candidates for membership in the alliance, they must accept the conditions of the Turkish authorities.
"Sweden and Finland, as invited countries, will be able to participate in the NATO summit in Madrid, but it will be difficult for them to fulfill their aspirations to become candidates for membership in the alliance if they do not meet Turkey's demands by the end of June," Stoltenberg said.
He also expressed doubt that Sweden and Finland will not be able to achieve their goal at the alliance summit to be held on June 28-30.
One of the conditions set by Ankara for those countries to join the alliance is the extradition of members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey, as well as the cessation of support for the party.
