On May 20, on the margins of the 132nd session of CoE Committee of Foreign Ministers, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt.
The interlocutors touched upon issues related to the bilateral agenda, in this regard, stressing the need for joint efforts to fully utilize the existing potential in political, economic and other spheres. In the context of promoting Armenian-Norwegian relations, the importance of increasing the visits at different levels, including high-level visits between Armenia and Norway was stressed.
The parties also referred to the democratic reforms implemented in Armenia. In this regard, it was emphasized that the snap parliamentary elections held in June 2021 met the highest international standards.
Ararat Mirzoyan and Anniken Huitfeldt exchanged views on the situation in the South Caucasus.
Minister Mirzoyan presented the urgent humanitarian issues resulting from the 44-day war, in particular, the need for repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan. He stressed the need for the international community to undertake adequate steps to fully address the humanitarian issues the people of Nagorno-Karabakh encounter.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister of Armenia also briefed his counterpart on the latest developments related to the Armenia-Turkey settlement process.
