Washington and Ankara are committed to close cooperation in resolving current geopolitical issues. This is stated in a joint statement issued by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu following a meeting of the US-Turkish Strategic Mechanism in New York on May 18.
"Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Cavusoglu intend to deepen bilateral cooperation through a constructive, open dialogue, as envisaged by the US-Turkey strategic mechanism," the statement said.
It is mentioned that the parties discussed concrete steps to strengthen their cooperation in the field of defense, counter-terrorism, energy and food security, combating climate change and trade, and agreed to intensify consultations on a number of regional issues.
The Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. During the meeting, they also touched upon the situation in Ukraine, the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, Syria, Libya and other regional issues.
