Russia hopes that in the near future it will be possible to start the practical work of delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at today's briefing, answering the question of ‘Lurer’.
“We are consistently in favor of the establishment of a bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and its further demarcation with the consultative support of Russia. At the same time, steps must be taken to increase border stability and security. This issue was discussed during the trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan in Dushanbe.
“The partners informed that they are close to the end of the formation of national delegations,” Zakharova said, adding that “Russia has already formed its expert team and hopes that in the near future it will be possible to start practical delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.”
According to Zakharova, the early start of the work of the delimitation commission is necessary for the prevention of any kind of border incidents.
“Within this framework, it would be possible to establish confidence-building mechanisms, including the establishment of contact groups to ensure a stable atmosphere in the border areas,” Zakharova said.
