Sergei Rachkov, the Chairman of the Standing Commission for Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, member of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s Standing Commission on Political Issues and International Co-operation, spoke at a joint meeting of the CSTO PA Standing Commission.
The members of the meeting discussed the issue of granting the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic an observer status at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Expressing the position of our country, senator Rachkov noted that in the current geopolitical situation of the formation of a multipolar world order, it is important to support the desire of the Syrian Parliament to obtain observer status at the CSTO PA, “The Syrian Parliament declares its serious interest in developing sustainable relations and contacts with our organization, which is also in our interests. We support this request of the Syrian Parliament.”
Touching upon Syria's application, Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan noted that Yerevan has no objection to granting Syria observer status in the CSTO PA.
