At the summit in July, NATO member states will discuss ways to strengthen security in connection with the situation in Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this at a joint press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
According to him, the impact of the situation in Ukraine on the security and defense policy of the Euro-Atlantic area, as well as the necessary military changes in NATO should be discussed “within the alliance.”
“We agree that we should support Ukraine with all our might, including arms supplies. We are ready to take new measures regarding sanctions. We need to be independent of Russian energy supplies as soon as possible,” he said.
Referring to the prospects of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, Scholz said that the country is part of the European “family.” At the same time, he noted that the same conditions apply to all countries to join the EU.
