On May 6, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Armenia took place in Vilnius. Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan headed the Armenian delegation, the Lithuanian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Mantas Adomėnas.
Noting the high level of the existing political dialogue between Armenia and Lithuania, the sides discussed the possibilities of deepening the Armenian-Lithuanian friendly relations, strengthening the interstate ties, and practical steps.
The parties also discussed issues related to the mutually beneficial cooperation in the Armenian-Lithuanian sphere. Bilateral economic, scientific, educational and cultural cooperation was established, as well as cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations.
The Deputy Ministers praised the effective partnership between Armenia and the European Union, discussed the prospects of the EU Eastern Partnership.
Reference was made to Armenia's steps aimed at establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus region. The Armenian side stressed the need to repatriate Armenian prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees in the context of humanitarian issues unleashed as a result of the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan, as well as the preservation of Armenian cultural and religious heritage in Azerbaijani-held territories. The key role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including the status of Artsakh, has been reaffirmed.
During the consultations, the parties also touched upon a number of issues of international and regional agenda of mutual interest.
Within the framework of the visit to Vilnius, the Armenian delegation also met with the Advisor to the President of Lithuania, the Adviser to the Prime Minister during which issues related to the agenda of bilateral cooperation were discussed.
