EU countries will set up a working group to assess the situation with gas supplies to consumers in the Union. The first meeting of the group is scheduled for May 5 in Sofia. The Minister of Environment of France Barbara Pompili stated.
“We have studied the situation in the field of gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria. My colleagues from those countries have stated that in the near future they will not face the problem of gas supply interruptions for consumers and industry. We are closely monitoring the situation and setting up a regional working group to that end,” the official said.
She noted that the measures taken should mitigate the impact of possible interruptions in Russian gas supplies, including through new sources.
According to the Minister, the EU cannot yet completely replace natural gas imported from Russia with other supplies.
