“Ukraine will not abandon the intention to become a member of NATO, despite the discussion of security guarantees in peace negotiations with Russia.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister on the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishina in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
At the same time, she expressed disappointment with NATO refusal to establish a useless zone to Ukraine to stop bombing from Russia
“NATO statements regarding Ukraine was a little disappointed, and, of course, we expected more. We are a country that has enthusiastically the desire to join NATO, implementing national programs oriented to NATO and transforming the security and defense sector based on NATO standards,” said Stefanishina.
Deputy Prime Minister also criticized the “vibrations” of the Alliance in the issue of Ukrainian membership, which received an invitation in 2008 at a summit in Bucharest.
“Sweden and Finland can soon become NATO members. But I can also guarantee that if these countries were waiting for a decision on membership for another 15 years, they would also be at war,” Stephanishina emphasized.
