On April 21, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) stripped Russia of its status as a permanent observer at the Organization by an absolute majority.
With the exception of Russia, 25 states voted from the observers, eight abstained, and one country did not take part in the vote.
Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, who combined the position of permanent observer of the Russian Federation at the OAS, called the decision of the Organization “a serious mistake” because any organization, in his opinion, should “unite states in solving urgent problems.”
