Today the international community clearly tells us. To be the only country in the world that does not recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, an ally of Turkey, is a great danger not only for Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) but also for Armenia. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said about this in the Parliament presenting the 2021 Action plan report.
“Today, the international community is telling us again: “Lower your bar on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh a little, and you will ensure great international consolidation around Armenia and Artsakh.”
“Otherwise,” says the international community, “please do not rely on us. Not because we do not want to help you, but because we cannot help you,” Pashinyan says.
The Prime Minister recounted a conversation he had with a high-ranking foreign official, which he said left a deep imprint on his mind.
“That official said that his people have faced a dilemma seven times in the last 200 years, whether to fight or not. There were cases when they decided to fight and succeeded, there were cases when they decided to fight and failed, there were cases when they decided not to fight but could not, because the fight was forced on them. Nevertheless, this question is constantly raised before the peoples, because there is a terrible fact. There is no country in the world or in the old world today, or there are very few countries that are satisfied and happy with their borders and consider them fair. It simply does not exist, but it must be stopped somewhere, somehow, and that official himself is grateful to his generation, who made the decision to stop and were able to implement that decision,” Pashinyan said.
