The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution ending Russia's work in the Human Rights Council. The draft document was submitted by a number of countries, including the United States and Ukraine.
Ninety-three states voted for the decision, 24 against, 58 states abstained.
The document states that, if necessary, the UN General Assembly may reconsider that decision. The office of the President of the Assembly Abdullah Shahid told RIA Novosti that after the adoption of the resolution, Russia will retain its place in the Human Rights Council, but will be deprived of the right to vote.
