Meetings of H.E. Mr. Hrachya Poladyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Arab Republic of Egypt, in Alexandria
On April 5, H.E. Mr. Hrachya Poladyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Arab Republic of Egypt, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohamed al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandra, during which a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed.
Governor Mr. Mohamed al-Sharif noted that the historic city of Alexandria is traditionally known for the presence of the Armenian community, which has played a huge role in not only in the development of the state, but also has always been a bridge in the Armenian-Egyptian relations.
During the meeting, Ambassador Hrachya Poladyan referred to the historical past of the Armenian-Egyptian relations, noting that the first visit after the presentation of his credentials to President El-Sisi is to Alexandria, taking advantage of the development of economic and cultural cooperation with the second city of Egypt.
In this regard, Ambassador Hrachya Poladyan suggested activating the draft Agreement on cooperation between the Alexandria and Gyumri sisterly cities, which was handed over to the Egyptian side in 2017, to make it possible to sign it in the near future. The Governor welcomed the proposal, noting that he would do everything to make it a reality.
On the same day, Ambassador Hrachya Poladyan also met with Mr. Sherif Riyad, Deputy Director and Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Library of Alexandria.
During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the existing cooperation with Armenia, proposing to expand it, handing over the draft Memorandum of understanding between the Matenadaran of Yerevan and Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The Deputy Director welcomed the establishment of cooperation with the famous Institute-Manuscript, noting that it would be greatly mutually beneficial.
During the visit to the Library of Alexandria, Ambassador Hrachya Poladyan also visited the section of the collection of hundreds of Armenian books, promising to increase their number.
On April 4, Ambassador Hrachya Poladyan and his wife visited St. Paul-Peter`s church in Alexandria, where he met the Armenian community at the Prelacy.
