Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called Moscow's demand to pay for Russian gas in rubles blackmail, saying that Warsaw would not surrender to it, TASS reports.
Morawiecki noted that Poland is not going to pay for gas in rubles. "I urge the German Chancellor, the Austrian Chancellor and the other leaders not to succumb to it," he added. According to him, by receiving payments for gas in rubles, the Russian side is trying to bypass European restrictions.
“Sanctions must be maintained, they must be strong. The system must be rigid. We cannot weaken them. All this is extremely important,” Morawiecki said.
According to the Prime Minister of Poland, the sanctions imposed on Russia did not give the desired result, which is evidenced by the strengthening of the ruble.
“Some European leaders are talking about going back to normal, they are being pressured by European business. There will be no return to normalcy if Ukraine does not defend its sovereignty and freedom, because then Europe will show its weakness and will be humiliated. Europe will be toothless, it will not be able to act in defense of its basic, universal values, such as freedom and the right to life,” Morawiecki said.
