Progress has been made on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky after a meeting with the President of the European Parliament in Kyiv.
President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has assured that European Union fully supports Ukraine’s ambitions to be a candidate country and will provide assistance in rebuilding cities and villages after the end of the military actions.
“The European Union recognizes your country’s European ambitions and your aspirations to be a candidate country for accession and you can count on the European Parliament’s full support in achieving this goal,” Metsola said.
After the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul on March 29, Vladimir Medinsky, an adviser to the Russian President, said that Moscow does not object to Ukraine's aspirations to join the European Union. According to him, Kyiv refuses to join military alliances, deploy foreign military bases in Ukraine, hold military exercises without the consent of the guarantor countries, including Russia.
